About Zig Zag Railway
Zig Zag Railway is a much-loved heritage tourist railway located near Lithgow, approximately 90 minutes from western Sydney. Operated by a not-for-profit cooperative, the railway is powered by a dedicated community of volunteers and paid staff who work side by side to preserve history, operate safely, and deliver memorable visitor experiences.
At Zig Zag Railway, paid employees and volunteers are one team. Paid roles exist to provide continuity and support — not hierarchy. Everyone, regardless of title or qualification level, is expected to contribute wherever needed to keep the railway operating safely and smoothly. Respect, humility, teamwork, and shared purpose are core to how we work every day.
